On 28–29 May, the third international conference of the Alliance of Knowledge network took place between Messina and Reggio Calabria under the title Alliances for the Present Time: Cultures and Knowledge for Peace. Organised by the Institut Catholique de Toulouse in collaboration with the University of Messina, the Mediterranea University of Reggio Calabria, and the Universidad Francisco de Vitoria in Madrid, the conference brought together scholars from a wide range of disciplines to reflect on a question that increasingly concerns both academic research and contemporary society: how to rethink the unity of knowledge in a context marked by growing specialisation and the fragmentation of disciplinary perspectives.

Alongside the conference proceedings, Dr. Maurizio M. Malimpensa participated online in a dedicated meeting and discussion with members of the scientific committee of the Alliance of Knowledge network, namely Andrea Bellantone (ICT), Daniele Cananzi (UNIRC), Giuseppe Giordano (UNIME), and Francesco De Nigris (UFV). The meeting provided an opportunity to present the main activities of TRIERTIUM and, in particular, their connection with the recently submitted Horizon Europe project ALIAS (Logics of Alliance as a Relation-Centred Epistemological Framework for Cooperation across Science, Humanities and Society), prepared in collaboration with the University of Vienna and the Institut Catholique de Toulouse. The project explores the concept of alliance as a relational epistemological framework capable of fostering new forms of cooperation between the sciences, the humanities, and society. One of its strategic objectives is to strengthen the international integration of CMTF through closer collaboration with the Alliance of Knowledge network and, ultimately, through the Faculty’s participation in this international platform for interdisciplinary research.

The discussions therefore represented not only an occasion to deepen existing academic relationships, but also an important step in a broader process of institutional cooperation. A further stage in this process will take place in October 2026, when Dr. Eduard Fiedler will participate in an international conference dedicated to the thought of Klaus Hemmerle at the ICT, continuing the development of academic ties between CMTF and the universities and research centres gathered around the Alliance of Knowledge. More broadly, the network’s attempt to recover relational and cooperative forms of knowledge resonates deeply with several of the research trajectories currently being developed by TRIERTIUM and opens promising perspectives for future collaboration in both research and the formation of young scholars.
